Shadows of Salem Harbor

On a warm October afternoon, my sister and I escaped a crowded Salem, MA to find a beautiful park near Fort Pickering. As we climbed over the rocks near the lighthouse, I saw a scene that I knew I wanted to paint. The foreground was in shadow and the sunlight illuminated the distant shore. I loved the horizontal lines that this contrast created and the feeling of the late afternoon sun.
