Closed for Business

The painting was inspired by my love of old buildings and a continued connection to my hometown. This building was a once thriving general store in the rural community where I grew up and is prominent in childhood memories of a lot of aging citizens who remember visiting the store. The peeling paint, torn screens, ans sagging gutters made such a visual contrast to the lush summer greenery growing all around the decaying building. The shadows made by the bright summer sunshine made the broken out window a portal of dark mystery leaving me wondering what is left behind the pad locked front door.
