Early morning paintings are gruelingly fun. Waking up in a race to get ready to catch the dawn, walking towards the beach under a dim sky, wondering what the sunrise will show. There is an exciting anticipation in not knowing what you will paint. Racing again to set up and start painting as a sliver of the sun emerges from the horizon. This painting was one where I was in the zone, working quickly to chase the light. I love when I can find myself in this timeless zone of concentration, it can be difficult to get there. It makes the painting sincere despite being abstracted from reality.
