Patience is a Virtue

This is an 8”x10” plein air oil painting on canvas panel. An artist friend and I scouted out the perfect painting spot just minutes from home along a popular hiking path in Orcutt, California. It reminds us both of the early California scenes that Wendt and Wachtel painted in Southern California in the early 1900s. We took photos one misty morning and made plans to return to paint the next time the marine layer came in again. We finally got the conditions we had hoped for after a full week of high temps and clear mornings. We set up in the mist and painted as the sun broke through.
