A chapel stripped of all adornment holds court over the small harbor of Vis Island, Croatia. For years this village was battled over from the Romans to the pirates and separatists in the 20th century. Reportedly a ship of pirates ransacked the church and stole off with a wooden staue of the Madonna, only to be sunk by a squall. The statue floated back to the harbor and came to rest in front of the church, thus it's name.
