Sailing At Dawn
In 2010 I enjoyed being part of a group of plein air painters led by wonderful artist and teacher, David C. Gallup aboard the Conception dive boat traveling to the Channel Islands. I was lucky to repeat similar experiences four times, but on this inaugural trip we headed to San Miguel Island, the most northern Island of the Channel Islands National Park chain. Usually San Miguel is bleak, cold and windy, but this trip was perfect. We anchored near Cuyler Harbor between Prince Island and San Miguel.
We hiked all over the island enjoying thrilling views and many encounters with elephant seals. We painted laughed and had a wonderful time. Early one morning just as it began to be light I saw this sailboat just beginning its journey home.
