Floating

I witnessed this scene from my mother in law's terrace looking out on a beautiful Spring day. There was a parade of clouds moving over the countryside, and at times, they seemed to stop moving. I wanted to capture that feeling of being lost in time in an idyllic scene that only exists in our minds. I started with a strong underpainting in rose and transparent red oxide then blocked the painting in with palette knives. I finished with a large brush to accentuate the blue and turquoise areas of the sky and to give the clouds a little more volume.
